Fleas
Adult fleas have piercing mouthparts and feed exclusively on blood, so they need a warm-blooded host to survive and reproduce. More than 90 percent of fleas found on both dogs and cats are the cat flea. Once an adult flea acquires a host, it usually remains for the duration of its life. This can be as few as 12 to 14 days, or as many as 174 days.
